How to Purchase (Agents that submit on behalf of Clients)
Prior to April 2019, businesses and agents may volunteer to join the MTD VAT 'Public' Pilot.
However, only those businesses that meet the HMRC 'Eligibility' criteria may actually join.
The term 'Pilot' simply means that businesses and agents may signup to MTD in advance of April 2019.
Although it is not compulsory to signup to MTD before you purchase the software,
if you don't signup first, the use of the software will be very limited.
This is because, when you first use the software, you need to 'Grant Authority' using your MTD account.
Also you will be unable to retrieve your obligated VAT return until you have granted authority.
Therefore you may wish to check your eligibility before purchasing the software (see link below).
There are 3 software options available. The unlicensed 'Live Evaluation' option is free of charge and is available to downloaded
from this website. The 'Business' and 'AgencyXX' licence options are subject to an annual licence fee.
(Where 'XX' is the maximum number of clients).
Please Note: As you are an Agent that submits on behalf of Clients, you will require an 'AgencyXX' licence.
Your 'Live Evaluation' software is upgraded to a licensed 'AgencyXX' version,
by purchasing a software licence and then entering an 'Activation' Key. This then allows you to submit VAT returns.

Note 1: Follow the instructions.
Note 2: At this point you can begin the process to link your client(s). However,
this is subject to your client(s) meeting the 'Eligibility' criteria for the Pilot.
Note 3: After linking your client(s), the next step is to individually obtain authorisation from each client.
This is the 'point of no return' as, once authorised, the client will be signed up to MTD and can no longer
submit VAT Returns on the old system.

- Using the software:
- Add your initial Business record.
- Using your MTD account, Grant Authority to allow the software to submit your VAT Returns.
- Attempt to retrieve the obligated VAT Return from HMRC.
- Then Import the VAT Return. (optional for the purposes of purchasing a licence)
Once you have successfully retrieved your first obligated VAT Return,
contact NJT and agree which Agency software licence is required, then email your purchase order.

Specify the Licence Type:
'New MTD VAT 'AgencyXX' licence' (where XX is the licence band agreed with NJT)
Your VAT Registration No (Where Registered), Business Name, Address, Telephone and Contact Name.
For VAT Registered Customers: Your VAT Registration Number will be used as your Licence Number.
For Customers not VAT Registered: Please indicate this in your email and a Licence Number
will be allocated to you.
You will then receive an email containing:
Your new Activation Key, Licence Number and a Purchase Invoice, which includes the NJT Bank details to facilitate electronic payment.
Open your 'Live Evaluation' workbook.
- Then click the 'Purchase Licence' button on the Dashboard.
- Enter your Business Name and Licence Number.
- Select the Licence Type 'AgencyXX' (where XX is the licence band agreed with NJT).
- Enter the Activation Key and click 'Activate'.
- Once you have successfully activated the software, you will be able to submit your VAT Return.
- Please notify NJT, by email, after you have submitted your first VAT Return.
Finally, Add your remaining business records and complete the
submission process for each client that has joined the Pilot.
